Family Resource Center
> WomenBuild

The Hispanic Family Center is recruiting, preparing, and training 30 qualified female ex-offenders to fill jobs in the construction industry in the Camden County area. This program is funded by the NJ Department of Labor and is carried out in collaboration with the Institute for Social Justice in Newark. Enrollment in the eight week WomenBuild Program at HFC offers a path to a career.

Program Participant Eligibility:

Participants must possess the following requirements:

  • Be a female at least 20 years of age at the time of enrollment;
  • Reside in Camden County (or be an ex-offender relocating to that county);
  • Possess at high school diploma or GED;
  • Possess a valid driver’s license;
  • Remain drug free and submit to drug testing through the program;
  • Score a minimum of 8th grade proficiency on the Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE); and
  • Demonstrate a valid interest in pursuing a career in construction

Case Management and Support Services

Each participant will receive wraparound services such as life skills training, supportive services and referrals to appropriate community partners.  Case Management will be closely linked to the application and interview process in order to identify needs that may prove to be a barrier to the successful completion of the training program. 

The Training Program includes:

The program will provide 200 hours of training over an eight (8) week period focusing on the following key areas:

  • Life Skills and Job Readiness Skills Training
  • Literacy and Communication
  • Financial Literacy and Financial Management
  • Construction Basics
  • Construction-Based Math
  • Vocational Hard Skills Training including:

Using hand and power tools
Measures and Construction
Installing replacement windows and doors
Patching and Painting
Building and Installing kitchen cabinets and bathroom vanities

Participants will also receive OSHA10 and EPA Remodel, Repair and Paint Certifications.
