Pediatric Asthma Prevention Program (PAPP)

Nurturing-Families-PAGE

This initiative seeks to build upon existing county-based collaborations and expertise, which provide a range of services that promote safety, permanency, well-being and self-sufficiency of children and families – in response to parental requests for programs that promote successful parenthood. This program supports a systemic solution that aims to extend the continuum of care, with coordinated service delivery to Camden County families with a focus on asthma and parenting education.

Across the state, 9.3% of New Jersey children suffer from asthma.* A report published by the New Jersey Department of Health on Asthma in New Jersey Resources  notes that asthma estimates are highest among black, non-Hispanic and Hispanic children in New Jersey. Adequate healthcare is integral to reducing this health disparity, particularly among minority populations. In an effort to address this issue, the Hispanic Family Center uses a multi-strategy approach that has proven to be very successful in assisting families in managing their children’s asthma.

The organization has also integrated a multi-session, evidenced-based parenting component, utilizing the evidenced-based 1, 2, 3, 4 Parents! Curriculum. This program component focuses on parent education, skill development, and stages of child development for parents with children under the age of four.

The Hispanic Family Center collaborates with numerous community partners and developed strategic partnerships, which have helped make this initiative successful; this includes daycare providers, schools, hospitals and FQHC’s, emergency department staff and the Southern New Jersey Perinatal Cooperative. It is partnerships such as this that have helped to increase the effectiveness of identification and linkage efforts. This program supports a systemic solution that aims to extend the continuum of care, with a coordinated service delivery model to Camden County families.

Services are available Monday-Friday 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Workshops can be scheduled by appointment. For more information please call (856) 963-0270.
