HIV/STD Prevention, Education and Outreach & People Living with HIV

The Hispanic Family Center’s LUCES (Latino Unidas Combatiendo la Epidemia de SIDA) program provides HIV and STD prevention services to young Hispanic women between the ages of 18-29 and to persons living with HIV. Targeted populations learn techniques to prevent both HIV and other STD’s. Those who are living with HIV learn ways of communicating to others about their disease, behavior changes to reduce repeat transmissions, and further developing skills that will help them build stronger relationships, and healthier lives. HFC utilizes Center for Disease Control (CDC) approved evidence based interventions (EBI’s) – SISTA and Healthy Relationships. In addition, HFC offers free HIV/AIDS testing to the community.

SISTA is an evidenced based, culturally sensitive, multi-session, group level intervention that is designed to increase condom use among Hispanic women. Sessions focus on ethnic and gender pride; knowledge of HIV; and training on risk reduction behaviors.

Services are available Monday – Friday 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., with evening hours available. For more information please contact (856) 963-0270.
