Hispanic Family Center to Hold its Annual Job Fair in East Camden

Camden, NJ (March 21, 2019) – On March 21, 2019, the Hispanic Family Center of Southern New Jersey, Inc. (HFC) will host the Job Fair from 11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. The free community event will be held at 35 South 29th Street, Camden, New Jersey.

The HFC’s annual job fair brings together local business and skilled workers from Camden and the surrounding areas to help grow and positively impact the community. The job fair will be a platform for both job seekers and employers to connect with each other. The HFC is looking forward to connecting employers with qualified candidates from our community. Employers will be able to interview skilled and ready-to-work candidate, on-site.

HISPANIC FAMILY CENTER OF SOUTHERN NEW JERSEY RECEIVES GRANT FROM THE GLOUCESTER COUNTY CULTURAL & HERITAGE COMMISSION FOR $2,800 TO FUND ART PROGRAM.

Camden, NJ (January 11, 2019) – The Hispanic Family Center of Southern New Jersey (HFC) is pleased to announce it has secured funding from the Gloucester County Cultural & Heritage Commission to continue its successful art program for another year. This generous grant will enable HFC’s Evergreen Family Success Center to host special workshops dedicated to enhancing Gloucester County’s knowledge of Hispanic folklore and Latin American culture. Through the art program, more than sixty members of the Gloucester County community will have the opportunity to work on a myriad of art projects such as paintings, papier-mâché, moldings and murals. Participants will learn the history behind various art projects, different art techniques, and discover Latino artists who have influenced the Latin American Culture.

HISPANIC FAMILY CENTER OF SOUTHERN NEW JERSEY RECEIVES GRANT FROM THE HORIZON FOUNDATION FOR NEW JERSEY FOR $60,000 TO FUND PATHWAY TO HEALTH PROGRAM.

Camden, NJ (January 1, 2019) – The Hispanic Family Center of Southern New Jersey has received a grant in the amount of $60,000 from The Horizon Foundation for New Jersey for its Pathway to Health program..

This grant from the Horizon Foundation for New Jersey will enable the Hispanic Family Center to promote health awareness and control common chronic diseases while navigating community members to available and appropriate health and social resources. The CHP consists of two components, to assist at-risk low-income underserved individuals with navigating the health system and to provide health education on a myriad of topics such as health insurance benefits, the current health system, and social determinants of health and how to address them. This program follows an evidence-based guideline that aims to improve the health and wellness of our community by assisting individuals in navigating the health system, linking them to care, and providing health promotion.

On December 16, 2018, the Hispanic Family Center assisted the city of Camden by providing children with gifts this holiday season. The City of Camden and Mayor Francisco “Frank” Moran hosted Teddy’s Toys at Winter Wonderland event. The event was a fun-filled and family experience that brought families together from all around the city of Camden. There was free food, gifts, and activities provided to all families. Behind the Smoke: Truth about Synthetic Cannabinoids Community Forum

 

Camden, NJ (November 15, 2018) – On November 15, 2018, the Hispanic Family Center of Southern New Jersey, Inc. (HFC) will host the Behind the Smoke: Truth about Synthetic Cannabinoids Community Forum from 9:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. The free community event will be held at the KROC Salvation Army Center at 1865 Harrison Avenue in Camden, New Jersey.

In 2015, the NJ Poison Information and Education System issued an alert to warn people about the dangerous, man-made drug and anything going by the street names “spice” or “K2.” Since then the use of synthetic cannabinoids has become an epidemic amongst youth and young adults. HFC recognizes this epidemic and wants to lead the discussion on how we as a community can promote prevention, increase access to treatment and support the recovery process for this struggling population. In recognition of National Domestic Violence Awareness Month, the Hispanic Family Center held a Domestic Violence Awareness Walk on October 26. The theme of this walks was “Unmask the Truth to Stop the Abuse.” Members of the community joined the HFC to walk 8 laps around Dudley Grange Park. The 8 laps represent the acts of domestic violence that happen every 8.5 minutes in New Jersey. Thank you to all who attended and supported the event.

¡En reconocimiento del Mes Nacional de Concientización sobre la Violencia Doméstica, el Centro Familiar Hispano realizó una caminata de Concientización sobre la Violencia Doméstica el 26 de octubre de 2018. El título de la actividad fue “Desenmascarar la Verdad para Detener el Abuso”. Miembros de la comunidad se unieron al HFC para caminar 8 vueltas alrededor de Dudley Grange Park. Las 8 vueltas representaron el hecho de que cada 8.5 minutos ocurren actos de violencia doméstica en Nueva Jersey. Gracias a todos los que asistieron y apoyaron el evento.

On Saturday, October 20th, The Evergreen Family Success Center hosted their annual Community Health Fair in Woodbury, NJ! This event provided the community with FREE health screenings and health education–plus food, music, games, and prizes! The HFC will also like to thank Lorie Bussison for sharing her cancer story and encouraging all to get health screenings regularly. This year the HFC was able to provide the local community with 15 flu shots, 28 blood pressure and glucose screenings, 47 skin screenings, and 7 HIV tests. Thank you to the community and the City of Woodbury for your support!

 

¡El sábado, 20 de octubre de 2018, el Centro de Éxito Familiar Evergreen organizó su Feria de Salud Comunitaria anual en Woodbury, NJ! Este evento proporcionó a la comunidad exámenes de salud, demostración de zumba y promoción de la salud GRATIS. ¡Además proveyó comida, música, juegos para niños y premios! HFC también agradece a Lorie Bussison, Sobreviviente de Cáncer y miembro de la Junta de Directores de la Coalición Cáncer de Mama del Sur de New Jersey, por compartir su historia sobre el cáncer y alentar a todos a que se realicen exámenes de salud con regularidad. Este año, el HFC pudo brindar a la comunidad local 15 vacunas contra la influenza provistas, 28 exámenes de presión arterial y glucosa, 47 exámenes de detección de danos causados a la piel por la explosión al sol y 7 pruebas de detección del VIH. ¡Gracias a la comunidad y a City of Woodbury por su apoyo!

Camden, NJ (October 18, 2018) – On October 18, 2018, the Hispanic Family Center will celebrate National Latino AIDS Awareness Day (NLAAD) from 12:30 p.m. – 3:30 p.m. The free community event will be held at 2850 Federal Street, Camden, New Jersey. This year’s National Latino AIDS Awareness Day theme is Ending HIV is Everyone’s Job. The theme speaks to the holistic responsibility of individuals, health care providers, and community partners to promote awareness and provide preventative education. HFC would like to offer a culturally relevant community and informational forum that centers on health education and prevention services.

The event will feature keynote speaker Omar Martinez, an esteemed Temple University professor who brings vast expertise in the public health field with specializations in HIV risk behaviors among underserved populations. In addition to guest speakers, the event will also feature free health screenings, raffles, food, and informational tables.

Camden, NJ (October 20, 2018) – On October 20, 2018, the Hispanic Family Center of Southern New Jersey, Inc. (HFC) will host its annual fall Community Health Fair from 1:00 pm- 5:00pm. The free community event will be held outside of the Evergreen Family Success Center at 21 Delaware Street, Woodbury, NJ 08096. For more than 40 years HFC has provided support to strengthen families, including but not limited to prevention and health education services. The health fair, a family friendly event, attracts many Gloucester County residents each year.

The goal of the Health Fair is to promote health awareness among individuals, as well as to encourage them to assume responsibility for their own health. We will bring together health professionals that serve Gloucester County residents for the purpose of educating individuals and families about health, prevention and existing local resources.

The Health Fair will provide families from the community with education, health-related information, free health testing opportunities, and a chance for families to discover services within the community that can help them lead healthier lives. In addition, the event will feature free food, a kid’s corner, music, and raffles.

On Monday, September 24, 2018, Elsa Candelario, the Executive Director of the Hispanic Family Center of Southern New, was honored with the 2018 SOCIAL WORKER OF THE YEAR award by the New Jersey Chapter of the National Association of Social Workers (NASW-NJ). Ms. Candelario spoke of her motivation and dedication to service & social justice, and delivered an inspiring speech to the students and future social workers in attendance.

HISPANIC FAMILY CENTER TO HOLD ITS ANNUAL HISPANIC HERITAGE MONTH EVENT IN EAST CAMDEN

Camden, NJ (September 26, 2018) – On September 26, 2018, the Hispanic Family Center will celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month from 12:30 p.m. – 3:30 p.m. The free community event will be held at 35 South 29th Street, Camden New Jersey. The community celebration recognizes the strength and hard work of Hispanic Americans who continue to shape the diverse society we live in. This year’s Hispanic Heritage Event theme is Hispanics: One Endless Voice to Enhance our Traditions. The theme relates to Hispanics influence in the United States and invites us to reflect on Hispanic American’s tradition, culture, and history. This is a one-day event set to honor our history and recognize Latinos in Camden and its vicinity. The event will feature “Voices from HFC”, cultural dance, as well as local guest speakers sharing their story and how it enhances our traditions. In addition, the event will feature food and stations that highlight a unique aspect of Hispanic culture and traditions.

Each year Hispanic Family Center serves nearly 10,000 individuals and families.

On September 24, 2018, Elsa Candelario, the Executive Director of the Hispanic Family Center of Southern New Jersey, Inc., will be honored with the “SOCIAL WORKER OF THE YEAR award” of 2018 by the New Jersey Chapter of the National Association of Social Workers (NASW-NJ).  This achievement award honors a member of the NASW-NJ who exemplifies the best of the profession’s values and achievements through recent, specific accomplishments. Ms. Candelario is a well-known expert on health and human services and has had a distinguished career as a human services administrator in New York City and, for the past 21 years, at the Hispanic Family Center (HFC) in Camden, New Jersey.

HISPANIC FAMILY CENTER TO HOLD NATIONAL RECOVERY MONTH CELEBRATION

Camden, NJ (September 13, 2018) – On Thursday September 13, 2018, the Hispanic Family Center will celebrate National Recovery Month with an evening of education, free HIV testing, and refreshments. Featured speaker Maxwell Melvins, who grew up in Camden, will tell an inspirational tale of transformation from felon to Grammy nominated hip hop artist, published poet, and TedX featured speaker. The free community event will be held at the Family Counseling Clinic located at 2700 Westfield Avenue Camden, NJ 08105.
